“Scoop the Poop: Wait, but Why though?”

18 Nov 2024

1. Dog Poop : It's not as natural as You Think. But That's Okay, You're Still a Good Dog Parent!

Let’s get one thing straight : dog poop is NOT natural.

I know what you're thinking: “But I see deer poop, bird poop, all kinds of poop in nature!” Sure, but here’s the thing, wild animals are basically following the original “farm-to-table” philosophy. They eat what’s already in the ecosystem and then, well, return it.

Your dog, on the other hand? A whole different ball game. Their diet consists of premium, gourmet kibble (or maybe even those fancy human-grade meals, we see you). That fancy feast means their poop contains a cocktail of bacteria and nitrates that can throw nature’s delicate balance into chaos! It’s like serving a Michelin-star meal in a fast-food joint, it doesn’t fit.

2.Dog Poop Doesn't Magically Disappear (Sorry, No Fairy Godmother Here)

If you’re thinking, "Eh, it’ll decompose eventually, right?” Nope! Dog poop doesn’t just disappear like your house keys when you're running late. Instead, it hangs around for WAY too long.

Before it even begins to break down, rainwater does the dirty work of spreading it everywhere, into lakes, streams, rivers and then BOOM! You’ve got algae overgrowth, ruining the natural beauty of your favorite swimming spot. And no, your dog doesn’t get a pass for being cute. Pollution is pollution, whether it comes from a factory or Fido.

3. Your Dog’s Poop : Packed with Surprises (The Bad Kind)

While your dog’s tail-wagging may be harmless, their poop? Not so much.

It’s like a hidden treasure chest… full of diseases! Even if your pup is the picture of health, their poop could still harbor nasty bacteria and parasites like Salmonella, E.coli, and roundworms. And yes, even the name "roundworms" is gross.

These little critters can make other animals, humans, and Mother Nature herself pretty sick. Let’s keep the parasites in sci-fi movies, shall we?

4. It’s Your “Doody” to Pick It Up (Pun Totally Intended)

Alright, here comes the tough love: It’s your job to pick up your dog’s poop.

I know, it’s not glamorous, but someone’s got to do it! Bring a bag with you when you take your dog out for a stroll. And if you’re feeling environmentally conscious (look at you, Earth Warrior!), opt for biodegradable bags made specifically for poop-scooping. Pro tip: don’t let your dog do their business within 200 feet of water and definitely don’t fling it into storm drains. That’s not what they’re there for, no matter how tempted you are to “launch and leave.”

Picking up your dog’s poop isn’t going to make the “Top 10 Fun Things to Do” list, but it's a small act that makes a BIG difference. Our parks, trails, and outdoor spaces (not to mention your neighbors) will thank you. Plus, your dog will still think you’re a hero, poop bag in hand and all!
